Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra (BNSK) has called for increasing female staff in the media outlets for bringing gender equality through ensuring women's skills at all levels.

They also emphasised formulating code of conducts and gender policy for all media outlets alongside other efforts to show respects to the female workforces and develop women-friendly working environment.

The demands were raised during the BNSK's third annual conference held at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) with BNSK's President Nasimun Ara Haq Minu in the chair.

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu attended the conference as the chief guest while Editor-in-Chief of bdnews24.com Toufique Imrose Khalidi was present as special guest.

BNSK's adviser senior journalist Setara Musa also spoke on the occasion.

BNSK General Secretary Parveen Sultana Jhuma, executive members Dil Monowara Monu and Aktar Jahan were present, among others.

More than 40 BNSK members joined the conference from different districts.

The BNSK president reading out the association's activities demanded promoting women journalists to the level of decision making to increase their participation at all stages.

She also demanded measures to be taken by the media authorities for the safety and security of women journalists, including maternity leave, rest rooms, childcare centre and transport facilities.

The BNSK chief said the association since its inception 17 years ago has raised voices against all kinds of repression and oppression on journalists, mainly female journalists, and for ensuring pro-women working environment in the media.

The conference ended with forming a new committee.
