India is committed to building a constant, stable, and constructive relationship with Bangladesh, said Pranay Verma, the Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, on Tuesday.
“We have a wide-ranging and multifaceted relationship. You cannot reduce it to just one issue,” the envoy remarked after a meeting with Acting Foreign Secretary Riaz Hamidullah at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting followed a summons by the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry to the Indian High Commissioner after the attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura by a group of Indian protesters on Sunday.
The protest was organised in response to alleged attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.
The Indian High Commissioner stressed that India and Bangladesh have numerous areas of cooperation and collaboration.
“There are so many interdependencies between the two countries. We want to build on the dependencies for our mutual benefit," Mr Verma said.
He noted that there have been several positive developments between the two nations over the years, particularly in areas such as power supply and essential commodities.
Mr Verma also emphasised that India is ready to engage with Bangladesh's interim government and remains committed to working together to achieve shared goals of peace, security, and development.
