China, India, Russia and other South and South Asian countries have congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her election in the run-up to a straight fourth term in office.

The envoys of China, India, Russia, the Philippines, Singapore and Sri Lanka paid courtesy calls separately on Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban on Monday morning.

Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen welcomed Sheikh Hasina for the successful holding of the 12th Parliamentary Election and her Awami League's sweeping to victory.

The envoy conveyed to Sheikh Hasina the warm congratulations and best wishes from Chinese leaders, according to a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy.

"He reaffirmed that the Chinese leaders are committed to working with Sheikh Hasina to carry forward the long-established friendship, enhance mutual trust and deepen practical cooperation."

This historic friendship would uplift the China-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership of Cooperation to a new height, quoted the spokesperson.

Mr Wen said both China and Bangladesh were at a critical stage of development and revitalisation.

"Under the guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and PM Hasina, China and Bangladesh have set a model of mutual respect and win-win cooperation."

China will firmly support Bangladesh in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and in opposing external interference.

"China will also support Bangladesh in maintaining unity and stability, and in playing a more active role in international and regional affairs.

China is committed to assisting Bangladesh in realising the 'Vision 2041' and the dream of building a "sonar Bangla" at an early date.

Mr Wen said Beijing would take due actions to expand trade and investment with Dhaka, promote high-quality 'Belt and Road' cooperation, and make its own contribution to realising "Smart Bangladesh".

Meanwhile, Indian envoy Pranay Verma conveyed greetings of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to PM Hasina on her election victory.

During the new term of her government, Mr Verma hoped, there would be even stronger momentum and growth in the bilateral partnership in support of each other's national development.

He stated that India would continue to support people of Bangladesh in realising their vision of a stable, progressive and prosperous nation, guided by their long-standing friendship.

Alexander Mantytsky, Russian ambassador to Bangladesh, also met Sheikh Hasina at Gonobhaban to congratulate her on behalf of Russian leaders.

He expressed hope for further cooperation between Russia and Bangladesh, and outlined promising areas of bilateral partnership.
