India has reaffirmed to attach the 'highest priority' to the country's relations with its neighbouring Bangladesh.

The country made the reaffirmation during a meeting between its external affairs minister S Jaishankar and visiting Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina in New Delhi today (Saturday).

"Jaishankar had a warm conversation with Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina. Reaffirmed India’s highest priority to her relations with Bangladesh," Raveesh Kumar, the official spokesperson of India's Ministry of External Affairs, tweeted along with photos of the meeting.

The meeting precedes the bilateral talks between Hasina and her counterpart Indian Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in the afternoon.

The talk are set to focus particularly on bilateral ties and several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs), according to reports.

Connectivity, capacity-building and culture sectors are among those on which the deals are likely to be signed.

For Hasina, who is now on a four-day official visit in India, this is the first visit there since she formed the government in 2018 -- the third in a row.
