The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has rejected the visa applications of over 20,000 Bangladeshi citizens and returned their passports.
This decision was taken in response to protests and threats directed at the High Commission over visa demands, according to a report published by the Times of India on Monday (September 30).
Meanwhile, India has also announced that visas for Bangladeshi citizens will be temporarily suspended, except in cases of emergencies or medical necessity.
Currently, only a limited number of emergency visa applications are being processed, multiple sources have confirmed.
However, some exceptions to this policy include visa applications for medical emergencies, student visas, and double-entry visas required for travel to third countries.
Earlier, visa services were suspended following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government and subsequent protests.
