India has again started issuing business visas for Bangladeshi nationals, the Indian high commissioner in Dhaka has said.
Applications are being handled on a fast-track basis in emergencies, Pranay Kumar Verma said while speaking at an event titled “Pharma Connect” in Dhaka’s Baridhara on Wednesday.
Officials and entrepreneurs from pharmaceutical companies attended the event.
The event was held ahead of Bangladesh’s participation in CPHI-PMEC India 2025, scheduled for November 25-27 in New Delhi.
Considering the law and order situation and limited capacity, visa services at some centres had been suspended. However, visa operations have now resumed even with limited staff, and a notable number of visas are being issued every day, he said.
If business visas are needed, applicants can contact the finance and commerce secretaries, and their cases will be facilitated, the high commissioner added.
Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries President and Incepta Pharmaceuticals Managing Director Abdul Muktadir said very few representatives from Bangladesh would be able to attend CPHI-PMEC this year due to visa complications.
In normal years, a few hundred professionals from Bangladesh attend the event, but the number is only 83 this year.
He called for simplifying the visa process and giving Bangladeshi applicants special consideration.
