Leaders and activists of Inqilab Moncho have clashed with police while attempting to march towards the official residence of the chief advisor to demand justice for the killing of Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
The confrontation took place on Friday afternoon when police stopped the march at the intersection in front of InterContinental Dhaka around 4pm.
Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber and several others were injured in the incident and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Md Faruk, chief of the police outpost at the hospital, said three people were receiving treatment at the hospital.
“None of them were shot,” he said.
Witnesses, however, said at least 20 more people were taken to hospitals with injuries sustained during the clash.
According to witnesses, police blocked the protesters as they tried to proceed towards the State Guest House Jamuna.
When the group attempted to break through the barricade, police moved in, using batons, sound grenades and tear gas.
Protesters responded by throwing brickbats and stones at law enforcers, escalating the confrontation.
Several people were injured by splinters from sound grenades, witnesses said, adding that the injured were later taken to hospital for treatment.
