Interim government soon after dissolving Parliament: President

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has announced that an interim government would be formed as soon as possible after dissolving the National Parliament.
He made the announcement in a televised address to the nation on Monday (August 5) night hours after Sheikh Hasina fled Bangladesh.
Awami League chief Hasina left Dhaka for India on Monday noon on a military aircraft after resigning as the prime minister.
The president said the decision was taken at a meeting with leaders of different political parties, civil society representatives and other stakeholders. Chiefs of three forces were present at the meeting.
Shahabuddin said the interim government would conduct the next general election as soon as possible to transfer power to an elected government.
The meeting also decided to free BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and other political prisoners.
