A pre-election observation team of the International Republican Institute (IRI) on Wednesday met Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
IRI board member Christopher J. Fussner led the eight-member IRI delegation during the meeting held at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital, reports UNB.
During the meeting, they discussed the preparations for the upcoming national election.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, delegation member John Fluharty said they had a great discussion with the Election Commission about free and fair elections.
He said they will issue a report soon after they finish this mission to Bangladesh.
Six other delegation members are Lisa Curtis, Jessica Keegan, Steve Cima, Jami Spykerman, Darin Bielecki and Amitabha Ghosh.
EC senior secretary Akhtar Ahmed was present in the meeting.
An EC release claimed that the delegation expressed satisfaction with the overall preparations of the Election Commission and expressed hope that IRI would send observers to the upcoming 13th National Parliament election.
