Police have arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami leader for allegedly storming into Keshabpur Police Station in Jashore and threatening the investigating officer in a case involving his cousin.
He was picked up in Jashore town on Wednesday morning and later sent to jail on a court order, said the station chief (OC) Anwar Hossain.
The arrestee, Oziur Rahman, is the president of Jamaat’s Keshabpur Upazila Professional Council and a former president of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Jashore (East) district unit.
He is also a practising lawyer.
Sub-Inspector Mokhlesur Rahman initiated a case against him on Sunday.
According to him, Oziur became aggressive after his cousin, Shahidul Islam, was made a suspect in a case filed by a local resident.
Oziur allegedly entered the station, used abusive language, and issued threats over the investigation.
