Meanwhile, Obaidul Quader, general secretary of Awami League, on Tuesday said the government is looking into the legal process of banning the anti-independence party Jamaat and Shibir.
“The government will take swift action after it properly looks into the legal issue of banning Jamaat so that this evil force cannot get any chances in an independent Bangladesh,” he said.
The minister of road transport and bridges made the statement at the start of a meeting at the Awami League’s central offices Tuesday.
On Monday, the ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance announced that they unanimously agreed on banning the Islamist political party and its student wing for their alleged involvement in anti-state activities.
