Jatiya Party expects no ‘wrong move’ by government in face of ‘misguided demands’

Senior Jatiya Party leader Shameem Haider Patwary hopes the government will take no "wrong steps" in the wake of the "misguided demands" calling for a ban on the party.

He said the demand to ban the party is “baseless”, as it has done nothing that would justify Jatiya Party or its activities being prohibited.

He also called on party members to be ready to respond if such an act appears.

Speaking with several media outlets at the Jatiya Party's Central Office auditorium on Sunday evening, the party’s secretary general said: "Our party office was set on fire on Saturday. We are grateful to police as they took swift action, extinguished the fire, and drove out the criminals.

"Right now, many are calling for the Jatiya Party to be banned. But the party was never engaged in terrorist activities, so there can be no legal ground to ban the party or its activities under anti-terrorism laws.”

He noted that the party has never done anything that could lead to the cancellation of its registration under the RPO (Representation of the People Order).

“There are no such allegations against the party. We are not intimidated by such demands."

Addressing party members, he said, "Everyone should be prepared. If there is an attack, you must respond. We will conduct our systematic movement in a peaceful environment.
