Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists blocked Shahbag intersection in the capital again on Tuesday, demanding justice for Shahriar Alam Shammo's murder.

The protesters also demanded resignation of the Dhaka University vice-chancellor and the proctor.

The blockade began around 3:00 pm and continued until 5:00 pm. Then the protesters marched in a procession towards the Central Shaheed Minar.

JCD activists from different units of the capital joined the demonstration, staging a sit-in at the intersection and disrupting traffic amid rain.

Speaking at the protest, JCD Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib said, "We have been continuously protesting since Shammo's murder. We'll bring entire Bangladesh to a standstill if justice is denied."

Earlier in the day, students of Dhaka University's Institute of Education and Research (IER) threatened to march to the home ministry tomorrow if no significant progress is found in the trial. They issued the threat and raised their demands at a press conference at 12:00 pm in front of the IER building.

Shammo's friend, Sohel Rana Sabbir, said they are closely monitoring the investigation.

"If we are not satisfied with the progress, we will stage a sit-in at 'Aparajeyo Bangla' and then march to the home ministry with fellow students."

Shammo, a student of IER and the Literature and Publication Secretary of the JCD Sir AF Rahman Hall unit, was stabbed to death on May 13 near Suhrawardy Udyan.
