The Jagannath University Journalists’ Association (JnUJA) formed a human chain on campus Friday, demanding justice for the brutal killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin of Dainik Protidiner Kagoj, who was murdered in Gazipur on Thursday night.
The demonstration was held at the sculpture square of the university premises following Jumma prayers.
Imran Hossain, president of JnUJA, called for a fair investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible. “We journalists expose social injustices through our work. But when our own safety is compromised, democracy and freedom of expression are endangered,” he said.
Asadul Islam, vice president of the association, emphasized the state’s role in ensuring the safety of its citizens.
“Repeated attacks on journalists raise grave concerns. As the fourth pillar of the state, journalists play a vital role in upholding democracy. Violence against them is a direct attempt to silence truth and encourage authoritarianism,” he added. “If such crimes go unpunished, it will only lead to further lawlessness.”
The association strongly condemned Tuhin’s murder and urged the government to take immediate and effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
