Journalist Khalilur Rahman no more

Senior journalist Muhammad Khalilur Rahman died in his residence in the capital on Monday afternoon at the age of 79.

He was suffering from various old-age complications.

He left behind his wife, daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

After namaz-e-janaza held at Mirpur Journalist Residential Area Mosque, he was laid to rest at Kalshi graveyard.

Journalist Rahman served The Financial Express as a consultant editor.

During his over five-decade career as a journalist, late Rahman also worked for various newspapers including The Daily Star, The Telegraph, The Bangladesh Observer and The Independent.

He started his career as a programme producer at Rajshahi centre of the then Radio Pakistan.

Mr Rahman joined Pakistan Observer on November 06, 1967 as a staff reporter.

He joined Bangladesh Observer in 1988 as its city editor. Two years later, he started working for The Daily Star as an associate editor.

Mr Rahman also joined The Independent as an advisory editor on July 16 in 1994 and served The Bangla-daily Mukta Kantho as an editor.  

Besides, he was involved with a couple of international media outlets. He was an editor of Manila-based Depth News, Bangladesh chapter and London-based Panos Feature Service.

Apart from journalism, Mr Rahman established himself as a writer. He authored a number of books including novels and biography.

He was born on September 12, 1939 in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur.
