Sohel Monzur, renowned journalist and editor and publisher of The News Times, died of heart failure at his residence early Monday morning. He was 58.
The journalist was suffering from heart complications for the last few years and his condition worsened in the early hours of Monday.
Sohel Monzur worked in the Daily Star, The Financial Express (FE), New Age, bdnews24.com, Daily Sun and AFP News Agency on different capacities during his over 40-year-long career.
Sohel Mozur joined FE in 1993, and served as Chief Reporter during 2002-2004 and Deputy Managing Editor during 2004-2005.
His journalism career began in Dainik Azad as university correspondent in 1987. Besides, he also worked at Centre for Media and Communication Studies as Executive Director and Katalyst-Swisscontact as media consultant.
He was buried at his family graveyard at Gangapora Peererhat in Kolkandi of Rangpur after Esha prayers.
Earlier, a namaz-e-janaza was held at his sister's house in the city's Tajmahal road, Mohammadpur, and another at his village after the Esha prayers.
Sohel is survived by his wife, one daughter, a son, and siblings. His friends and well wishers mourned his death.
ERF President Doulot Akter Mala and General Secretary Abul Kashem expressed shock at his death in a condolence message and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
