Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and former state minister for information technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak have been named in a case under the Cyber Security Act.
Kazi Golam Mostafa, chief of Kafrul Police Station, confirmed that the case was filed over a complaint of revealing NID information. Nineteen other named suspects are accused in the case, he said.
Around 15-20 unidentified suspects were also accused in the case, reports bdnews24.com.
On Wednesday, an individual named Enamul Haque filed the case, the OC said. The case accuses the son of the former prime minister and the ex-state minister of conspiring and selling off information about national identity cards (NID) through different organisations, exploiting their political power with the assistance of others, the police officer said.
As the information was sold, the Awami League government failed to ensure the security of personal information of general people, as well as of the nation, the OC said citing the case documents.
Hasina resigned her premiership and fled to India in the face of a student-led mass movement on Aug 5. Since then, many cases have been filed against her, her family members, the senior leaders of her Awami League party, and others connected to her administration.
