JS adopts condolence motion at deaths of five ex-MPs, noted personalities

Parliament on Sunday unanimously adopted a condolence motion expressing profound grief at the demise of five former MPs and some noted personalities.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in the House at the beginning of the 23rd session of the 10th parliament.

The five late former members of parliament are freedom fighter Shah Azizur Rahman, freedom fighter Sadir Uddin Ahmed, Language movement hero Shah Md Abdur Razzak, Abdul Gani and Shah Mostanjidul Haque Khizir.

The noted personalities are accused in Agartala conspiracy case and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's close aide MA Samad, former Navy chief Rear Admiral (retd) Musharraf Hussain Khan, educationalist, language movement hero and one of the organisers of the Liberation War Dr Safar Ali Akanda, Penal Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Osman Gani, legend brand song musician Ayub Bachchu, Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafarullah's mother Kazi Zebunessa Begum and Indian veteran journalist and author Kuldip Nayar, reports UNB.

Shah Azizur Rahman, Awami league MP elected in the 7th national election, was born at Osmaninagar upazila in Sylhet district in 1946, while Sadir Uddin Ahmed, AL MP elected in the 1st national election, was born at Purbadhola in Netrakona in 1933. Sadir Uddin was also a member of Pakistan national assembly before the Liberation War.

Abdur Razzak, MP elected in the 3rd national election, was born at Pirgachha in Rangpur in 1933. He had also been a member of the Pakistan National Assembly.

Abdul Gani, independent MP elected in 4th national election, was born at Teknaf in Cox's Bazar, while Mostanjidul Haque Khizir, BNP MP elected in the 2nd national election, was born at Mirzapur in Tangail.

Besides, the House expressed profound shock at the death of those who were killed in the recent terrible earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia, ferry capsize in Tanzania, hurricane at Florida in the USA, Titli cyclone at Odisha and Andhra Pradesh in India, and recent road accidents at home and abroad.

The members of the House also stood up and observed a one-minute solemn silence to pay respect to the memories of the deceased.

A munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls was offered in the House. Bazlul Haque Haroon, AL MP elected from Jhalokathi-1 constituency conducted the munajat.
