The Jahangirnagar University (JU) organised its 15th Annual Butterfly Fair on Friday. The Entomology Branch of the Department of Zoology hosted the daylong event.
The fair was held to promote butterfly conservation and raise public awareness about ecological balance. Its theme was "Urle akashe projapoti, prokriti pai notun goti" (Butterflies fly in the sky, nature gets a new speed).
The programme featured activities like live butterfly display, butterfly painting and quiz competitions, photography exhibition and contest, and documentary screening.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan inaugurated the fair.
"The event highlights ethical considerations towards animals and has brought unique recognition to the Jahangirnagar University. Butterflies teach us the significance of conserving nature for the benefit of all," he said.
Dr Manowar Hossain, the convener of Species Fair 2025 and a professor in the JU's Zoology Department, underscored the importance of butterflies in maintaining ecological balance.
"Butterflies are vital to the ecosystem and food chain. Ensuring their survival keeps nature beautiful," he added.
Prof Mafruhi Sattar, dean of the JU Faculty of Biological Sciences, said, "The JU is an ideal place for wildlife. The administration must prioritise preserving nature alongside campus development."
