The home of a Jubo Dal leader has allegedly been vandalised a day after an attack on a Jamaat-e-Islami rally in Chattogram’s Mirsharai.

Police and locals say the attack occurred on Saturday evening at the home of Kamrul Islam in Ward No. 3 of the Sadar area of the Mirsharai Municipality. Three to four people have been injured in the incident.

A local supporter of Kamrul, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Jamaat supporters had gathered in the municipality late on Saturday afternoon to protest the attack on their programme on Friday. Those in the gathering then went to the home of Jubo Dal Convener Kamrul and attacked it.

Kamrul was not home at the time.

Jamaat leaders have alleged that their mass rally at the S Rahman School in Ward No. 3 was attacked by a group led by Kamrul. The attack left 12 people injured.

Shihab Uddin, the amir of the municipality’s Jamaat unit, said they held a rally and a march on Friday to protest the attack.

He claimed the protesters then went to the police station and that none of them had attacked Kamrul’s home.

Shihab suggested that Kamrul could have staged the incident.

He added that a complaint over the attack on Friday had been submitted to the police.

Shahedul Islam Chowdhury, the convener of the Upazila’s BNP unit, said he had heard about the attack on Kamrul’s house. He said that the attack may have occurred in retaliation over the incident on Friday.

Shahedul said he was unable to contact the Jubo Dal leader.

Inspector Diptesh Roy of Mirsharai Police Station said that an attack had occurred on the home of a Jubo Dal leader, but no one had yet filed a complaint over the incident.
