The Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) Election Commission (EC) has made dope test mandatory for all candidates contesting the upcoming JUCSU and hall union elections.
Professor Dr. Md. Moniruzzaman, Chief Election Commissioner for the JUCSU elections, announced the decision on Tuesday night.
"The majority of participants in a meeting on Sunday called for mandatory dope test to uphold integrity and fairness in the elections. Considering their feedback, the EC unanimously decided to implement the measure," he said.
The EC has already issued a letter to the university administration, requesting necessary measures to ensure smooth implementation of the test.
On Sunday, the EC held a meeting with the candidates to discuss ways to ensure a proper, transparent, and acceptable electoral environment on the campus.
A total of 179 candidates are set to compete for 25 executive posts in the JUCSU polls. Among them, 10 candidates are vying for the position of vice president (VP), while nine candidates are contesting for the general secretary (GS) post.
