The long-awaited Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) election will take place on September 11, the authorities finally announced on Sunday.
Chief Election Commissioner Professor Md Moniruzzaman announced the schedule at the Senate Room of the university.
The draft voter list and code of conduct will be published on August 10, according to the schedule.
Objections to the draft voter list can be submitted until 4:00 PM on August 14, and suggestions on the draft code of conduct can also be submitted by the same date.
The final voter list and code of conduct will be published on August 17. Nomination papers can be collected and submitted by candidates or their representatives between August 18 and 19.
The preliminary list of candidates will be released on August 25 while appeals against rejections will be accepted on August 26, with hearings and verdicts scheduled for August 27.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations is August 28, followed by the publishing of the final list of candidates on August 29. Election campaigning will run from August 29 to midnight on September 9.
JU Proctor Rashidul Alam said the campus will be brought under CCTV surveillance to ensure a peaceful and fair election, which would be held simultaneously on September 11 in accordance with Article 8(b) of the JUCSU constitution.
"Security personnel would remain vigilant to prevent outsiders from disrupting the environment," he added, urging cooperation from all students.
Earlier, the VC had announced plans to hold the JUCSU polls by May 31 this year, but differences among student bodies over constitutional reforms and justice for the attack during the July uprising delayed the process.
The election, initially scheduled for July 31, was postponed, as trials of those involved in the attack, including Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders, remained incomplete.
