Justice Khizir Hayat of the Supreme Court's High Court Division has been removed from his position. President Mohammed Shahabuddin dismissed him in accordance with Clause 6 of Article 96 of the Constitution.

A gazette notification regarding his removal was issued on Wednesday (March 19) by the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

The gazette, signed by Law and Justice Division Secretary Sheikh Abu Taher, said the President removed Justice Khizir Hayat from his post as per section (6) of Article 96 of the constitution.

Khizir Hayat completed his studies at Dhaka University and began practicing law at the Dhaka District Judge Court in 1997. He was enrolled as a lawyer in the High Court Division on February 9, 2001. On May 31, 2018, he was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court Division and became a permanent judge two years later.

His removal comes after student protests demanding the resignation of "biased, corrupt, and authoritarian-aligned" judges. In response, 12 High Court Division judges, including Justice Khizir Hayat, were initially suspended from judicial duties on October 20.
