BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s breathing difficulty has eased after an infection in her heart and lungs, the party’s health affairs secretary has said.
A medical board is providing necessary treatment while she remains in a cabin under intense observation, Dr Rafiqul Islam said, Prothom Alo reports.
The senior BNP leader described Khaleda’s health condition as “more or less stable”.
Khaleda Zia, who is almost 80, has long been suffering from several health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis and kidney complications.
She was taken to Evercare Hospital in the capital Dhaka on Sunday after she suddenly developed breathing difficulties.
Professor F M Siddiqui, one of Khaleda’s physicians, said she is receiving treatment in line with her physical condition.
Meanwhile, doa mahfils (special prayer gatherings) for her recovery were held on Wednesday in different parts of the country, including at Naya Paltan.
Earlier, on 7 January, the BNP chairperson went to London for advanced medical treatment.
She stayed there for 117 days and came back home on 6 May.
