Kushtia ‘shootouts’ leave two drug suspects dead

Separate shootouts in Kushtia have left two drug suspects dead. The incidents took place between two groups of criminals in the early hours of Wednesday.

Based on tip-off, a team of police went to Kaburhat Madrasha Para in sadar upazila on a raid at around 2:00 am. They had information that the criminals were engaged in illicit activity, according to Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station.

Sensing presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.

After the skirmish, police found the bullet riddled body of an unidentified man and took him to Kushtia General Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries later.

One foreign pistol and 800 pieces of yaba tablets were also recovered from the spot.

In another incident in Doulatpur upazila, a team of police conducted a drive at Muslimnagar Field where a group of criminals had gathered, said Shah Dara, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station.

The criminals managed to flee the scene sensing presence of the law enforcers and, left the dead the body of Madan, 45, a listed drug trader, UNB reported.

Madan was wanted in a number of cases. Police also recovered one pistol, three bullets, 900 pieces of yaba tablets and 30 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot.
