The government has canceled the 'khas land' granted in favor of eminent musician Rezwana Choudhury Bannya’s Surer Dhara music school.

The controversy emerged after it was revealed that the previous government, led by the ex-prime minister, had granted the khas land in the city’s Lalmatia for Surer Dhara, a music school founded by Rezwana Choudhury.

The decision was communicated in a letter signed by Md. Aminur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Khas Land-1 Branch of the Ministry of Land. The Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka has been instructed to take appropriate action and send a report to the Ministry of Land.

The land, located in Ramchandrapur Mouza of Mohammadpur Police Station, Dhaka, was originally approved for long-term settlement on behalf of Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Chairman and Principal of Surer Dhara.

The total land area is 0.5120 acres. However, the settlement has been cancelled due to the land being classified as 'Khal' (canal) in the CS and RS records.
