The Ministry of Land is going to launch a new service window to facilitate land tax payments for Bangladeshi expatriates.
Describing the initiative as pivotal in enhancing smart land services, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, Minister of Land, instructed the ministry’s key officials to streamline the process by creating relevant guidelines.
He came up with the directive during the ministry's sub-committee meeting on smart land management, held in the conference room of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.
"We aim to directly boost our revenue from overseas sources. Several individuals abroad have requested me to simplify the process of direct land tax payments," the minister said.
He also instructed the land officials to spread awareness about smart land services among Bangladeshi expatriates.
Chaired by the land minister, the first sub-committee meeting discussed several key initiatives and highlighted the land ministry’s commitment to align with the Smart Bangladesh vision across four pillars, namely Smart Citizen, Smart Government, Smart Economy, and Smart Society.
Md Khalilur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Land, was also present in the meeting.
In the first meeting of the sub-committee, some directives were issued for the payment of land development tax from abroad.
In addition to this, almost 0.3 million mutation cases are resolved online every month, accompanied by a daily land service fee of Tk 60 million swiftly deposited into the state exchequer. The meeting highlighted that even expatriates residing as far away as Venezuela and the United States are availing of these land services.
The minister further directed the concerned officials to identify all areas related to Smart Bangladesh 2041 in land management.
He emphasised the need to identify objectives, challenges, possibilities, and actions in these areas.
He stressed the formulation of short-, medium-, and long-term action plans, with a rigorous monitoring protocol implemented by the Ministry of Land in this context.
