Law-enforcing agencies have arrested 1,308 people across Bangladesh as part of ongoing operations, including the government-led “Operation Devil Hunt”.
However, as of Sunday evening, police headquarters had no information on how many of these arrests were directly linked to the operation, reports bdnews24.com.
“From last night until this afternoon, a total of 1,308 people have been arrested across the country,” Additional Inspector General Enamul Haque Sagar, a spokesman for the Police Headquarters, said in the evening.
When asked about the number of arrests specifically under “Operation Devil Hunt”, he said police had no immediate data.
At a press conference at the home ministry in the afternoon, Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Gani was asked the same question but could not provide an instant figure.
A police headquarters official later said that the figure was part of their routine arrests, as people were detained on different charges.
No comparative data on the number of arrests from the previous day was available from police headquarters.
Bangladesh has 639 police stations in total.
Sources say these stations collectively make more than 1,000 arrests daily in regular cases, including those related to warrants and other complaints.
The interim government launched “Operation Devil Hunt” on Saturday evening to detain those attempting to destabilise the country.
At the press conference, Nasimul said joint forces were also continuing their operations alongside the special drive.
