The law ministry has called for detailed information on 'politically motivated' cases filed during the 15-year rule of the Awami League.

The directive focuses on cases targeting politicians and others, particularly those filed around the national elections of 2014, 2018 and 2024.

Public prosecutors have been instructed to compile and submit a comprehensive list of such cases, Deputy Solicitor Sana Md Mahroof Hossain of the Law and Justice Division said on Tuesday.

“The information must be emailed to the solicitor by Dec 17. Without comprehensive data on these cases, it has been difficult to take remedial measures,” he added.

Prosecutors were also asked to be meticulous, responsible and cautious when preparing the lists, which the ministry will scrutinise thoroughly.

A letter from the Solicitor's Division on Monday noted that between Jan 6, 2009, and Aug 5, 2024 -- especially before and after the elections in 2014, 2018, and 2024 -- numerous cases were filed against political leaders and activists, which were often perceived as harassment or baseless.
