A Dhaka court on Friday granted a seven-day remand for Chandan Das, the prime accused, and a five-day remand for Ripon Das in connection with the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.
The Special Court of Judge Kazi Shariful Islam passed the order after the investigation officer requested a 10-day remand for each of the accused, Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan said.
Earlier, the two suspects were produced before the court under tight security, with law enforcement agencies enforcing strict security measures both within the court premises and in surrounding areas since the morning, BSS reports.
Chandan Das, the main suspect in the murder, was arrested by police from Bhairab Rail Station in Kishoreganj district. Ripon Das was apprehended the following day from Anwara upazila in the same district.
Saiful Islam Alif was killed during a protest against the rejection of a bail petition for former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das. On November 26, a Chattogram court sent Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari to jail, after which his followers clashed with police and lawyers. Alif was hacked to death allegedly by the ISKCON supporters at that time.
