A Supreme Court lawyer has served a legal notice on several government authorities, demanding the suspension of the contract between the Ministry of Railways and Shohoz, the private vendor responsible for Bangladesh Railway's online ticketing services.
The notice seeks action within seven days, citing public inconvenience and lack of transparency in the agreement.
The notice also urges the government to cancel the fully digital e-ticketing system and reinstate a manual ticketing option alongside a limited electronic system managed by the railway's own technical team.
It further calls for full public disclosure of the contract's terms and conditions.
The Railways Secretary, Law Secretary, Planning Division Secretary, Director General of Bangladesh Railway, Additional Director General (Operations) of Bangladesh Railway, and the Managing Director of Shohoz have been named as respondents in the notice.
The notice was issued on Thursday by Miazi Alamgir Alam Chowdhury, a Supreme Court lawyer, in what he described as a measure to safeguard public interest.
According to the lawyer, the contract between the Ministry of Railways and Shohoz is "questionable", and if the respondents fail to comply within the stipulated period, he intends to move the High Court by filing a writ petition.
BR introduced a fully e-ticketing system after signing a five-year agreement with Shohoz (Sohoz.com) on February 15, 2022.
