A lawyer sent a legal notice to fashion retailer Aarong on Monday, urging the company to stop charging customers for paper shopping bags.

Nishat Farzana, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, sent the notice to Aarong authorities, describing herself as a regular Aarong customer, local news portals said.

The lawyer demanded that the company stop charging for paper bags within 10 days. Otherwise, she will take legal action with the appropriate authorities against this ‘illegal act’.

According to the notice, the lawyer said during a recent visit to the Mogbazar outlet, she was informed that the fashion retailer has stopped providing the bags free of cost since September 2025. The company claimed that the proceeds from bag sales will be used for local tree-planting projects as part of green and sustainable development initiatives.

The lawyer said tree plantation initiatives should be funded from the existing profits of the company without giving an extra burden on customers.
