Lioness escapes enclosure at Mirpur zoo

A lioness has escaped from its cage at Bangladesh National Zoo in Mirpur.

Rafiqul Islam Talukder, a director at the zoo, confirmed the incident occurred at 4:45pm.

 “The lioness is roaming somewhere in the zoo premises. We are trying to locate and catch it,” he said.

Visitors left the zoo after the escape of the lioness, he confirmed.

Rafiq suspected the door to the animal's cage must have been left open, for there was no other way to escape with the cage secured with grills.

The zoo is currently home to five lions.
