Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she already asked the authorities concerned to list those who are providing healthcare service from the frontlines during this coronavirus outbreak in order to reward them.

She made the remark during a videoconference with officials of 15 districts under Chattogram and Sylhet divisions on the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country.

She also announced a special health insurance for the doctors, nurses and others working day and night to provide health care services to the people in the critical time.

If infected with the virus while serving the coronavirus patients, they each will get Tk 0.5 million to Tk 1.0 million depending on their position under the scheme, she said.

Allah forbids if anyone dies, that assistance will be fivefold, she added.

Warning those doctors absent from their duty, Sheikh Hasina said it will be reviewed whether they can continue in their profession.

The Prime Minister thanked the doctors and health workers who are serving the people putting their lives at risks during this unprecedented crisis.

As a Dhaka University student suspected of contracting coronavirus had died without getting treatment, she expressed sadness about this saying, “It’s really very unfortunate.”

Sheikh Hasina, however, said that all and sundry at the government-run hospitals are providing service “very sincerely”.

Doctors and health workers in the country have recently drawn huge criticism as many patients having symptoms similar to those of the coronavirus disease were turned away from many hospitals.
