Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam has apologised for past remarks that he said may have caused division among patriotic forces.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, he wrote, “I sincerely apologise for any of my words or expressions that were divisive.”

He pledged to work with respect and sensitivity towards all groups involved in the July uprising, “even if it is for a single day” that he remains in office.

Alam also called for avoiding all divisive slogans and labels from past political settlements that, in his view, make large segments of the population ‘killable’.

He warned Bangladesh’s sovereignty and democratic institutions are under threat, and said those who stood united during the uprising now face a long test of unity and patience – a test that must be passed.
