Mahmudur Rahman, acting editor of Amar Desh, on Sunday issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding a ban on Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of Bangladesh Awami League.
“Bangladesh Chhatra League has to be banned as a terrorist organization within seven days. We are giving a seven-day ultimatum from the Amar Desh newspaper family and journalist platform. If no action is taken within this deadline, strong movement will be staged on the road,” he said.
He gave the ultimatum at a programme while pressing home his seven-point demand on the premises of the National Press Club on Sunday, UNB reports.
“Chhatra League was involved in every crime that happened in the last 16 years. Even the members of the organization killed thousands of students and mass people during the anti-discrimination movement,” he said.
Mahmudur was released from jail on bail on October 3 in a case involving conspiracy to kidnap and attempt to kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT advisor.
