A man has been killed and another injured after an alleged shootout with Dhaka police in Mohammadpur’s Bosila in the early hours of Sunday.

Police claim the victims were hijackers.

Mohammadpur Police OC Ganesh Gopal Biswas said that law enforcers were working to identify the deceased, who is approximately 40 years old.

The injured, 35-year-old Hannan, has been admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation, reports bdnews24.com.

“A group of hijackers were waiting at the intersection near the Bosila Garden City at 3 am on Sunday in a silver-coloured Corolla car," said OC Biswas.

“We conducted an operation in the area after we received a report about it. The hijackers noticed the police presence and opened fire. Police returned fire and injured two of them.”

They were taken to the hospital, where doctors on duty declared one of them dead, the OC said.

In addition to the car, four knives, a pistol and six bullets were seized from the scene.

The car had numerous fake license plates, the OC said.
