An elderly man from Cumilla endured a nine-day physical and mental torture by his sons and the latter's wives in a bid to save his land properties and bank money from them.

Neibours rescued Nazir Ahammed, 76, trapped inside his own house at Bajehura village of Burichang upazila, on Tuesday. He has been admitted to the local upazila health complex.

The victim claimed that his three sons - Abu Zafar Kanu, Jashim Uddin and Zamshed Alam - along with their wives had been carrying out the torture on him for a long span of time in order to grab his FDR money amounting to Tk 2 million as well as his land properties.

Zamshed and Jashim had forcibly made their father will his 72 decimals of land in their names, depriving Zafar. The torture started as Nazir later wanted back his land to equally distribute it to his three sons.

The sons fled abroad to escape Shalish (a dispute settlement system by locals), but their wives continued the torture for grabbing the rest of the properties.

Hopeless to regain the land, the father filed a case, only to have the toture on him increase extremely.

During the last nine-day episode of torment, the torture continued up with a threat to kill him unless he willed the properties to them.

Officer-in-charge of Burichang Police Station Manol Kumar De said they visited the spot and those involved in torturing Nazir have gone into hiding ever since the incident came to light, reports UNB.
