A man was hacked to death early Sunday in the Gendaria area of Dhaka, allegedly over previous enmity.
The deceased was identified as Ariful Islam Babu (35), a resident of Baluarchar village in Shariatpur’s Jajira upazila. He was living in a rented house in Mirhajirbagh’s Mollahpara area.
The incident occurred near the the Dayaganj railway line around 5:30 am, said police.
Ariful’s wife, Ayesha Akter, alleged that a group of five local youths, including Robin, Shahin, Masud, Kader, and another unidentified man, attacked Babu with sharp weapons and left him bleeding on the street.
She said, “There was a dispute between my husband and Robin, but I don’t know the reason behind it.”
Ariful was rushed to a local clinic and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around 8:00 am.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body bore injuries to the head and both hands. It has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
