A youth was stabbed to death over a dispute about a sleeping place under a flyover in Mawna Chowrasta area in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Jewel, hailing from Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh.

Police have arrested two suspects, Rakib (25) and Robin (27), in this connection and also recovered a bloodstained knife used in the killing.

Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdul Barik told journalists that several youths had gone to sleep near a tea stall called Golpo Chhora under the Maona flyover on Friday night.

An argument broke out between the victim and the suspects over sleeping space on a jute mat. During the scuffle, Rakib stabbed Jewel in the chest, while Robin sustained a cut to his hand.

Locals rushed Jewel to a hospital at Maona Chowrasta, and later to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Police, who were on patrol, detained the two suspects at the scene.

The OC said both the victim and the arrested men were homeless and allegedly involved in various criminal activities in the area.

Legal proceedings are underway, said the OC.
