A man in Bandarban has allegedly lost a leg in a landmine explosion at Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari border.

Masrurul Haque, officer-in-charge of Naikhongchhari Police Station, said that the incident occurred at the zero point in Myanmar territory along Dochhari Union’s Lembuchhari border on Wednesday.

The injured man, 20-year-old Mohammad Shahidullah, is the son of Badsha Mia, a resident of Bahir Math in Lembuchhari, reports bdnews244.com.

According to locals, Shahidullah crossed the border to “smuggle” Bangladeshi goods into Myanmar. On his way back to Bangladesh, he set off a landmine planted by the Arakan Army near the border observation post pillar No. 49.

Citing locals, OC Masrurul said: "The explosion blew apart the man's left leg, below the knee. When locals received the news, they rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex.”

"He left the hospital after receiving first aid. His current whereabouts are unknown.”

The OC added that an investigation is underway for the incident.
