A 30-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his cousin following an argument over drying paddy in the courtyard in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Sujon Fakir, son of Khokon Fakir of Jajisar village under Kayempur union. Shawon Fakir, 22, is accused of carrying out the attack, according to police.

Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdul Kader said the two cousins got into a heated argument over drying paddy in their shared yard. At one point, Shawon stabbed Sujon in the chest with a large knife, leaving him critically injured.

Sujon was rushed to Kasba Upazila Health Complex, where doctors referred him to Cumilla for better treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Sujion’s family members alleged that Shawon Fakir is a known drug dealer in the area.

Sujon’s father, Khokon Fakir, said that Shawon was enraged with their family ever since he was barred from continuing drug trade around six months ago to protect the family’s reputation.

“On Thursday morning, while we were drying paddy in the courtyard, Shawon began hurling abusive language at us. When my son Sujon confronted him, a scuffle broke out and Shawon stabbed him,” said Khokon.

The body was sent for autopsy. Preparations are underway to file a case, and efforts are on to arrest the accused, said OC Abdul Kader.
