Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday said the people of Bangladesh have always stood by the oppressed people of Palestine and continue to support their just cause.

“Bangladesh firmly supports the freedom and sovereignty of Palestine — we stand for justice and humanity. “March for Gaza” rally held in Dhaka on April 12 was a manifestation of Bangladesh’s unwavering solidarity with and support for the people of Palestine,” he said during a meeting with Palestinian Ambassador Yousef S Y Ramadan at the Secretariat.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed several issues of mutual interest including the recently held “March for Gaza” rally in Dhaka, an upcoming visit by a Palestine TV delegation, and the proposed issuance of a commemorative passport in the name of Al-Aqsa Mosque on behalf of Bangladesh, reports UNB.

Welcoming the ambassador, the adviser described Palestine as a time-tested friend of Bangladesh and assured that the country’s support and cooperation for the Palestinian cause will always remain persistent.

Expressing his heartfelt thanks for organising the solidarity rally, Ambassador Ramadan said, “What the Arab world and other Muslim countries couldn’t do, Bangladesh has done.”

He said many Palestinians are curious to know the special reason behind such a massive protest in Bangladesh against Israel’s brutal attacks and oppression.

The adviser attributed this strong reaction to the sincere religious devotion of Bangladesh’s Muslims.

Ambassador Ramadan informed the adviser that a delegation from Palestine TV will visit Bangladesh on May 17 to document the country’s solidarity with Palestine and produce a documentary that will later be aired on Palestinian television.

As he requested the issuance of a commemorative passport in the name of Al-Aqsa Mosque the adviser assured him that necessary approvals would be obtained from the Chief Adviser’s Office and relevant authorities to facilitate the issuance of the passport.
