Bangladeshi markets and shopping malls are now buzzing with enthusiastic shoppers as less than two weeks are left until the Muslim festival Eid al-Fitr that marks the end of the Islamic holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Stores are adorned with colourful lights, wooing shoppers to stay late in the markets.

Many temporary stalls also pop up in numerous markets, selling bangles, henna, cosmetics and other decorative accessories for women and children in Dhaka, reports Xinhua.

Readymade garment stores attract the most customers as people are busy buying new clothes for the holiday.

With the holy Eid al-Fitr drawing near, shopkeepers and importers in Dhaka markets said they are extremely busy supplying dresses at stores. Sales of festive dresses and other items for Eid have gained momentum this week.

Apart from luxury and regular dresses, stores in Dhaka have been selling jewellery items, the demand for which skyrockets during Eid.

Eid al-Fitr, one of the largest religious festivals in Bangladesh, will be celebrated on or around April 11 based on the sighting of the new moon.

Muslims follow a lunar calendar and a moonlighting methodology that can lead to different countries declaring the start of Ramadan a day or two apart.

Bangladeshi Muslims started Ramadan this year on March 12.
