Met office forecasts light to heavy rain in parts of country

Most parts of the country, including Dhaka, may witness light to heavy rainfall in the next 24-hour period starting from 9:00am on Saturday, according to a met office bulletin.

The 24-hour bulletin, issued by Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said rain/thunder showers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions and at a few places over Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country.

Meanwhile, Dhaka reported 42 millimetre (mm) rainfall in the last 24-hour hour ending at 9:00am while Dimla (an upazila of Nilphamari District) recorded 65 mm rainfall during the period, the bulletin added.

However, mild heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Jashore and Satkhira and it may abate, the BMD bulletin said.

The well marked low over Gulf of Martaban and adjoining Myanmar intensified into a depression first and then weakened into a well marked low over Northwest Thailand and adjoining Myanmar, 

Trough of low extends from Bihar to North Bay across West Bengal and Southern part of Bangladesh persists, it says.

Day temperature may fall by (1-2)°C while night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it forecasted.

In its outlook for the next 72-hour, it said rain/thunder showers activity is likely to continue.
