Metro rails getting new timings

The metro rail is set to reduce the time gap of train operations by increasing the number of trains next week amid a mounting pressure of passengers on the first corridor from Uttara to Motijheel.

Sources said time of train operations of the mass rapid transit line 6 (MRT 6) will be reduced to six to seven minutes' interval from the present 10 to 12 minutes according to peak and off-peak hours as all preparations have been completed.

The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) will announce the changed plan in a press conference today.

The sources said as the MRT 6 has been getting passengers with its full capacity in most cases, the DMTCL has been on the pressure to increase the number of coaches from ignorance.

Increasing the number of trains to reduce the time gap between two trains can ease the situation as well as time of shutting train doors which can be reduced to 20 seconds from existing 30 seconds, said an official.
