Migration of Bangladeshi workers and investment will top the agenda when Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus meets Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during a three-day visit starting Monday.
Dr Yunus will hold a bilateral meeting with Mr Ibrahim on August 12 at the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya, followed by delegation-level talks and the signing of several memorandums of understanding (MoUs), which will include defence, energy, and the establishment of a Bangladesh–Malaysia Business Council.
Officials said discussions will focus on resuming manpower recruitment — halted by Malaysia last year — increasing the hiring of skilled professionals, and improving facilities for Bangladeshi workers. Talks will also explore regularising undocumented workers.
Bangladesh will seek Malaysian investment in deep-sea fishing and electric vehicle manufacturing, with Proton invited to expand operations in the EV sector. Dr Yunus will also meet major Malaysian business leaders.
The visit includes a business conference on August 12 and the conferment of an honorary degree on Dr Yunus by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia the following day.
Over one million Bangladeshis currently work in Malaysia. The Chief Adviser is travelling with a high-level delegation and will be received with a Guard of Honour by Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
