BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been admitted to Gulshan’s United Hospital, according to party spokesman Shairul Kabir Khan.
“Sir was hospitalised yesterday [Sunday] at the advice of doctors,” he said on Monday. “Sir is now in a cabin.”
“Sir’s condition is largely better today. He is well now.”
Fakhrul is under the care of United Hospital Chief Cardiology Consultant Dr NAM Momenuzzaman, reports bdnews24.com.
His wife, Rahat Ara Begum, and his youngest daughter, Mirza Safaruh, are with him.
They have requested party leaders, activists and supporters not to crowd the hospital.
The party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is regularly receiving updates on Fakhrul’s condition over the phone from London.
Doctors at the hospital say that the BNP secretary general’s sodium level had fallen, he was having difficulty breathing due to cough and congestion in his chest, and was also feeling very weak. He was admitted to the hospital and underwent a range of tests for heart disease.
They say his condition has improved.
