Armed miscreants opened fire on the house of an expatriate BNP activist in Raozan of Chattogram around noon on Wednesday (February 11), a day before Bangladesh’s polls.
The incident took place at the house of Rustom Ali in Shamsherpara village under Kodolpur Union. Rustom Ali, a BNP activist, currently lives in the United Arab Emirates, according to local and party sources.
Police said a group of 10 to 12 armed men went to the house, fired blank rounds and shouted abusive words before leaving the area.
A team of police and army personnel rushed to the spot, but the attackers fled before their arrival. Administrative officials later visited the scene.
Police said they have not yet been able to identify the assailants.
According to party sources, Rustom is known as a follower of Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, who is contesting the Raozan constituency for an MP seat.
Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sazedul Islam said legal action would be taken after an investigation.
