A passenger bus was set on fire by unidentified miscreants in Basail upazila of Tangail on Wednesday night.
The incident took place around 12:30 am on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Baikhola area.
According to police and local sources, the bus — named Bangla Star— was travelling from Dhaka to Pabna when attackers suddenly set it ablaze while it was moving. Passengers quickly got off the bus and narrowly escaped injury.
Two units of the Tangail Fire Service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
SM Humayun Karnayan, senior station officer of Tangail Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed that the fire had been extinguished and no one was hurt.
Basail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jalal Uddin said the incident occurred amid slow traffic following a road accident on the highway. Miscreants took advantage of the situation to set the bus on fire before fleeing.
Authorities are investigating the incident and will take necessary action, he added.
